Lion (Panthera leo)
Best Locations:
- Queen Elizabeth National Park (including tree-climbing lions in Ishasha)
- Murchison Falls National Park
- Kidepo Valley National Park
Tips: Early morning and late afternoon game drives offer the best chances.
Leopard (Panthera pardus)
Best Locations:
- Queen Elizabeth National Park
- Kidepo Valley National Park
- Murchison Falls National Park
Tips: Leopards are elusive and primarily nocturnal. Look in trees during daytime.
African Elephant (Loxodonta africana)
Best Locations:
- Murchison Falls National Park

Tips: Elephants are abundant and easily spotted, especially near water sources.
African Buffalo (Syncerus caffer)
Best Locations:

Tips: Often seen in large herds, particularly in open savanna areas.
Rhinoceros (White Rhino)
Best Location:
- Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (the only place in Uganda)
Tips: Rhinos were poached to extinction in Uganda but are being reintroduced at Ziwa. Walking safaris offer close encounters.
Planning Your Big Five Safari
While it's possible to see four of the Big Five in parks like Murchison Falls or Queen Elizabeth, plan at least 5-7 days to maximize your chances of spotting all five including a visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
